All right, here it is. In one corner you've got the Buffalo Bills. In the other corner, the Chiefs Trey how do you how? Did you feel about the divisional round overall?
Speaker 2:I think it went almost as planned. I got to say from the very beginning let's just go NFC first, because we're going to talk AFC in a minute. I had Jayden Daniels as a top five quarterback. Even as a rookie, the guy has impressed me beyond belief this year Did you have him win in that game. I did.
Speaker 1:Wow, I think he is one of the best. The Lions are kind of beat up, right?
Speaker 2:Well, not only the Lions are beat up, but I feel like the Lions actually put more pressure on themselves, like the kids who want it too much, you know, like Detroit wants it too much. And they were beat up a little bit, and they were I'm not going to say unstable, but I'll say like they're risky. And when you're risky it's almost like winning games shooting three-pointers If they go in, you kill people, but if they don't, you lose. And so I felt like there was more margin for error for the commanders than there is for Detroit. Plus, I also feel like Jayden Daniels.
Speaker 2:That dude is a stone-cold killer. There's never a moment too big. His pulse never gets above 70, I'm pretty sure during games he can run, he, he can run. He's an excellent thrower. He understands football. He understands the blitzes and the defenses and the coverage in a way that he does not look like a rookie to me. I would not be surprised. I would not be surprised if he ends up in the Super Bowl, would not be surprised at all. Really, no rookie quarterback has ever gone in the Super Bowl. Wow, listen, the Eagles have experience. That's the one thing. On their side, they have experience, but they also have Sirianni. They also have the Jalen Hurts AJ Brown situation going on. They've got some stuff there and right now the commanders are playing with house money. No one's expected this.
Speaker 2:They're playing free and loose and I mean that would be an amazing story. I could totally see Jaden Daniels going to the Super Bowl. So I saw that one. I wanted the Lions to win. They were a feel-good story. I wanted them to win. But man, jay Daniels, that guy is impressive. Probably the worst matchup for Detroit.
Speaker 1:How about the snow game in Philly? Did you catch that one yesterday I?
Speaker 2:loved it. I love snow games. I thought that I really thought the Rams were actually going to a three and out and get the ball back, basically at a two-minute mark with.
Speaker 1:Matt Stafford throwing the ball. Didn't it start with a missed extra point too?
Speaker 2:I think there was a missed extra point at the beginning or something like that, I think the opening drive touched, or the first touchdown.
Speaker 1:I think they missed an extra point or something like that.
Speaker 2:Either way. When that happened it was only like this could come back to haunt him and I really thought the Rams were going to go down and score. I was pretty surprised at how that turned out with the fourth down play and not being able to convert there. So Philly survived. Both the teams played really well. Conditions were tough. I think Philly's a great team so I mean like, yeah, no shade at them. But I really did think that I mean, of all, stafford could do it. The guy's just tough and he can really sling that thing. I thought it kind of went the way that I expected it. I was big on Jaden Daniels. I wanted the Lions to win, but I also just knew that that guy is a stone cold killer. And that's what I'm saying. I'm not surprised if he becomes the first rookie quarterback to end up in the Super Bowl.
Speaker 1:It feels so out of reach to me. But hey, any given Sunday, right? I mean, these are two professional teams playing each other. I guess it's Saturday. Is it Saturday for the NFC? Well, actually both of them are on Sunday.
Speaker 2:The NFC is at 2, or is it 2 o'clock Eastern?
Speaker 1:Yeah, it's 3 and 6.30, so 2 and 5.30 for you. Yeah, that's correct.
Speaker 2:So we shift our attention to the AFC, and I kind of think it went the same. I clearly expected the Chiefs to win. I felt like they had a superior team and had a better opportunity coming off the bye. I mean, they had everything in their favor there, so I really felt they were going to win. Did you go to the game? I did not go to this game. I wasn't able to attend. I had some family members couldn't go to the game. Shout out to Blake Lappin, though, who did give me a ticket. I just couldn't make it.
Speaker 1:That's all right.
Speaker 2:Did you hear?
Speaker 2:Troy Aikman's comment when the flag got thrown for the Mahomes yes, I think he's a little bitter because there was a time when he said talk to me when he's got a third of my Super Bowls. Well, he's about to eclipse him. He's not happy about that, I think. So he's a little upset about that. But I did hear those comments. I felt up until that last missed two-point conversion. I really felt that Lamar overall and the Ravens overall outplayed the Bills If you look at yards, if you look at first downs, if you look at those types of things.
Speaker 1:But it doesn't matter.
Speaker 2:There's no picture on the scorecard.
Speaker 1:You're absolutely right. It's like golf, right, it doesn't matter how you got to the hole, as long as you got there. But, like, if you look at, like, if you look at Allen's stats on paper, they're like huh, yeah, I think. I think the Bills played such like vanilla football that they didn't make mistakes. They didn't need to have Superman out there.
Speaker 1:They're learning their defense and special some good work, I shouldn't have to do anything besides throw 140 or whatever you are. Here's another stat that I heard today, which I didn't know With Josh Allen, if in any Buffalo Bills game where they run the ball more than 50% of the time, the Bills are undefeated Interesting have never lost a game when they've run the ball, with Josh Allen playing as quarterback where they've run it more than they've passed it, yeah and again you get the turnovers and whatnot.
Speaker 2:They've been through the ringers, they know what doesn't work and they're starting to learn what does work. And vanilla football is that. You know, when you look at I mean I was it was crazy to me that the Ravens had three turnovers and still had a shot. Yeah, I mean that's pretty crazy. But again, at the end of the day, no pictures on the scorecard, it's just what the score is and you know they clearly did enough to win.
Speaker 1:Who do you think so? Obviously the MVP voting happened after Week 18. Who do you think the AP picked on that? I think Lamar's going to get it again. You think so yeah?
Speaker 2:I wouldn't be surprised. Statistically it's really hard to go against. Oh great, they both had great years, but Lamar had like a crazy good year. You're not only with the passing yards, the touchdowns, interceptions, but the rushing yards as well. Yeah, His stats from line of scrimmage are absolutely nuts. Now again, Lamar did what Lamar does in the playoff had his worst game of the year in the playoffs. It sucks because he's a great player, but that tends to keep happening.
Speaker 1:What was the final last year in the AFC Championship when you guys played?
Speaker 2:I think it was only like a two-point game. It was a close game and we kind of got out at dodge. Maybe it was more than that, I don't know. Somebody look that up, somebody tell us, let me see if I can find it real quick.
Speaker 1:We'll see if we can find it, because I remember I was at the divisional game in Orchard Park 17-10.
Speaker 2:Oh wow, 17-10.
Speaker 1:And I think we lost you guys like twenty three, twenty or twenty seventeen.
Speaker 2:It was a close game, like Tyler.
Speaker 1:Bass was was going down to hopefully get a field goal to tie it up and try to get to overtime and didn't even make the field goal and you guys nailed it out. But let's talk about. Let's talk about this year, trey, let's talk about this year. So one of the things I always look at first is like what does Vegas do with the game? Where do they, where do they put the lines and all of that? And they've got it right now at, I think, with you being at home, I think you're one and a half point favorites as the Chiefs which there's really a tie.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I mean it's a toss.
Speaker 1:I think I think either team obviously can win this and I think here's, I think, the key to the game the home field advantage. Here's, I think, the key to the game, the home field advantage. Right, if you can, if you're, you're going to be there. You said right, yeah, so if you guys can be so loud that the bills have false starts or delay of games or just miscommunications in any way, shape or form, if you get those like you get that differential of like the extra, like four or five penalties on the bills because of the crowd impact, I think that could be a big key to the game. I mean mahomes and kelsey. I've never seen a duo that turns it on as much as those two do. It's like it's like every day that gets closer to the super bowl, they're like more and more in sync, like two wireless routers, like just I don't know what they're doing but they get really, really tight.
Speaker 2:I'll say this, I think'll say this I think the two keys to the game for me is going to be discipline rushing by the Chiefs, because they have great rushers. They can get some pressure on Allen without over-pursuing, because he can run. He's so mobile. That's what hurt us in the first game is he's so mobile. Yeah, I think discipline rushing and getting some pressure on him without losing him, that's going to be really key because the secondary is playing well, the linebackers are playing really well, but you have to get a little pressure on the quarterback for it to be really effective. So that's going to be critical on the defensive side. On the offensive side, man, I think as long as nobody gets injured, the Chiefs have the advantage Because think about this you didn't see a big catch from Hollywood Brown in that last game.
Speaker 2:You didn't see a big catch from Juju Smith-Schuster. You saw one or two good catches from Worthy. I think he had 54 yards, four catches. They haven't. In my opinion. I don't think they've shown off all their bag of tricks yet and as long as Kelsey is healthy and the other Titans are healthy and they have options to spread the field and they can maybe hit one or two long balls. They're going to be really tough to stop.
Speaker 2:So on the Chiefs side, I think it's the discipline rushing against Allen and containing him. You're not going to stop him. He's going to make good throws, he's going to make good runs. Can you get him on the ground quickly when he does run? Can you make him a little bit harder to throw than normal with great coverage in the backfield? You got to slow him down. I mean, he's just tough. We saw in the game several years ago, the 13 second game, like yeah, it's unbelievable how fast they were able just to sling it and score, and that was in cold weather too. So yeah, I think that if there's anybody that has confidence that they can beat the Chiefs in Arrowhead right now outside of the delusional Bengals, it's got to be the Buffalo Bills.
Speaker 1:I'll give you my keys for the side, and I am with you. I um, I mean you, look at espn's matchup predictor analytics has given you a 54 chance bills win. But again, vegas says something else. Home, that home field advantage is something. But I think for for the bill side, I'm going to give you my coaching take is sean mcdermott needs to be aggressive and not play a conservative game. This is winter, go home. I'm talking fourth and two is fourth and ones. I don't care if you're at your own 45 yard line.
Speaker 1:This is the AFC championship, right Cause what are you gonna do? You're going to punt from midfield, then it accidentally goes in the end zone. They get it back. It is what it is. And then, on the offensive side, player wise, give me josh, give me josh's cannon, give me the. Let everyone's gonna eat. I want the whole receiving core, but I want to see us run the ball too. I want to see a good mix where you're not. You're not seeing josh allen throw 300 yards because he has to um, but because there's a good read available. He makes the, you know he makes the play. But that's my take. I think the best man wins and you know that whoever wins, that's. That's who I'm taking in the Super Bowl, as has been in previous years.
Speaker 2:That's right, okay, so a couple of questions and then the bet. All right. So who do you think has more pressure to win this game, considering that the Chiefs are going for an historic three-peat and need to get to the Super Bowl for that to even be a reality, and the Bills, if they don't win this game, are going to follow the pattern of the News bills of losing four straight to not get there and to not make it happen, who do you feel like has the most pressure on in this game?
Speaker 1:well, the bills lost four straight super bowls and haven't gotten to the super bowl since, so I'm saying, if they do this, it'll be their fourth loss to kansas city in the playoffs.
Speaker 2:Yeah, they're following the pattern, is what I'm saying. Yeah, that scar tissue builds up.
Speaker 1:I think the pressure is more on buffalo, I think, because when a team wins a Superbowl, you usually had that expected, like Superbowl hangover, which you guys didn't have. Like you saw what the Rams a couple of years ago. You guys didn't have it last year. I mean, you were the three seed going into the playoffs, but you still came into Orchard Park and won the divisional and then went on the road to Baltimore, right? You literally?
Speaker 2:played on the road to Baltimore right.
Speaker 1:You literally played on the road After winning the wildcard game in the cold weather, to the Super Bowl and then you won it and you came back from a. You were down and you came back in the fourth quarter, if I remember correctly, against San Fran last year Again. But I don't think if the Chiefs make the Super Bowl and lose which I don't think would happen but if they make the Super Bowl and lose, I don't think anybody's upset with the Chiefs. I think everyone's like that's normal.
Speaker 2:That's the regression to the mean.
Speaker 1:Yeah, like you won your conference three years in a row. Like, what does Mahomes have? He's got three rings.
Speaker 2:He's got three rings. He's been in four Super Bowls in the last five years. He's playing in his seventh straight AFC championship game. Yep, six out of seven at Arizona.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I mean, I think the pressure would be more so on Buffalo, Although there's an argument to be made on both sides. I just argued against the Chiefs version. The Bills version of why you would take pressure off is like everyone thought, it was like a bills rebuild year. They're like yeah, you know, the bills are gonna be the third in their division, like miami and the jets.
Speaker 2:We know how that feels. It's insane man. It's two years ago. Two years ago they predicted the chiefs fourth in the afc west. Two years ago, really, yeah, wow, yeah, it was the year. It was right after we lost tyreek and everybody's like, oh, it's a rebuilding year, we were dropping all this pat. I and everybody's like, oh, it's a rebuilding year, we were dropping all this Pat.
Speaker 1:I mean it's like yeah sometimes all that is, though, is cutting the fat man. Like the bills got rid of digs in the off season and like, which heard literally like the fan base was excited about everyone that's on the outside. It was like what are they going to do without a wide receiver one?
Speaker 2:And it's the wide receivers that John Elway threw to. Can you name the wide receivers Dan Marino threw to? If you have a good quarterback who can sling it, you'll find some guys who can catch the ball.
Speaker 1:That's a very, very fair point right there.
Speaker 2:You'll find some guys who can catch the ball and I think Mahomes figured that out last year. He figured out who his trusted targets were by the end of the season. They went in the playoffs. They only threw to those guys. They only threw to those guys, you know. They were only throwing to Kelsey. And Juju Smith-Schuster had a good run. Mccole Hardman came up big and like they just lived off of those guys you know. And Rasheed Rice was huge and he became a trusted one. You find who the trusted people are and those are the only people you throw to. It's no coincidence that Travis Kelsey got 117 yards and was the go-to guy. They were trying to take away the speedsters on the outside, so Kelsey was open. What's going to happen? Are the Bills going to take away Kelsey? And then you got Hollywood Brown one-on-one and Xavier Worthy one-on-one. I mean like yeah, there's a lot of decisions to make defensively for the Bills.
Speaker 1:Hey, I'm the guy that goes to the games and I watch the games and I'll talk about the Bills, but there's a reason that I don't get paid to make those calls. I am never a Monday morning coach or whatever they call it.
Speaker 2:Well, this is why I say if the Chiefs stay healthy, if the wide receivers and the tight ends and moms stay healthy, it's kind of pick your poison and it's going to be tough for any defense to stop all of them all game long unless they just stop themselves.
Speaker 1:Drop passes, bad routes, whatever might be slipping the ground, I don't know man, it'll be a great game, though I think you know both teams are going to put up points. I think it's a matter of who makes mistakes. It's literally going to be like it's special teams defense offense. If you're not, whoever's hitting on all three calibers, the best wins that game.
Speaker 2:Okay. So final question, then we'll obviously remind people of our annual bet. You've got to give a score here. Final score who's winning and what's the score? Oh my gosh.
Speaker 1:Well, you know, I'm going to pick the Bills. Naturally, of course, I'm going to go 38-35.
Speaker 2:That's a Super Bowl score from years back.
Speaker 1:And I think it's close.
Speaker 2:Is it a regulation 38-35?
Speaker 1:I'm going to naturally take the Bills.
Speaker 2:Regulation 38-35 or overtime 38-35? I'm going to naturally take the Bills Regulation 3835 or overtime 3835?
Speaker 1:I don't even talk overtime with me, I think it's regulation. Yeah, I think America wants overtime Bills Chiefs, but I think I would literally have a heart attack if that game was tied up with zeros on the clock.
Speaker 2:It is what we all want. It's more of the game, more football. I'm with you. I think it's a high-scoring game as well. I think the Chiefs give up the most points that they've given up all season, and I think they win.
Speaker 1:Okay, so you're putting that high-scoring one-score game yeah.
Speaker 2:I just don't think you can stop Josh. I think that they know that. I think they're going to be more aggressive. They're going to take a few more shots from 25 and 30 yards out. They'll probably hit some of those shots. I think Mahomes is going to have one of his best games. I think he's going to have three touchdowns, no interceptions, probably 310 yards, and I think Kareem Hunt's going to punch his ticket to the Super Bowl. Yeah, he's going to score the game-winning touchdown and everybody's going to be so pumped up.
Speaker 1:All right. Well as it goes, whenever we get a chance to have our two teams play each other, we'll do a little bit of a jersey swap, if you would. Unfortunately, I have yet to have to mail you anything but your own jersey back Now.
Speaker 2:the great thing about this Nate is that with every Super Bowl win, I keep adding a new jersey to the collection. So as time goes on here, you actually have options now. So you can wear a Mahomes jersey if you want. You can wear a Kelsey jersey if you want.
Speaker 2:You don't have to wear the junior one I got three full-size jerseys now you can wear, and this is my newest one. I don't know if you can see it or not, but this is my trip mcduffie jersey, because I think that he was the super bowl mvp last year, even though they gave it to my homes. He played best of everybody and was just incredible. So you got options, my friend. You can, you can, you can order one now, you know, and get whatever you want.
Speaker 1:So unfortunately my uh, I've got three jerseys. The one that I would send you is gonna be be my number 17,. Josh Allen blue. It does not have any cool patches that say Super Bowl champs or anything. It's just the plain old. Off the rack. Josh Allen Superman 17.
Speaker 2:Maybe that'll change this year, you never know. Now here's the question. Allen gets to the Super Bowl, the Bills win, they make it. Who do you want to play? Who would you rather play? I?
Speaker 1:literally was talking about this yesterday and I want to play just because, like it's not that I have any quarrel against them, I got friends that like that, like the Eagles, but in general, like whenever I've had, whenever I cause I I live in Orchard Park, I grew up in Orchard Park. I've gone to so many tailgates and games at at grew up in Orchard Park. I've gone to so many tailgates and games at the Bills Stadium Whenever both the Ravens and the Eagles would come in town. They're the nastiest fan bases and I thought we were crazy. These are the most embarrassingly savage human beings. So, yeah, I would want to beat the Eagles. That's great to know. I think the easier game would be the Commanders, but I would want to play the Eagles.
Speaker 2:So I consider Buffalo as Midwestern Easterners, so I would agree with that. You guys have that Midwestern hospitality pretty kind, pretty cool respectable.
Speaker 1:for the most part, we're pretty much just apologizing all the time. That's right.
Speaker 2:Not in the same vein, all right, so the Chiefs win. I'll just share this out there. The Chiefs win. I definitely want the Commanders to be in the Super Bowl. I think that would be an electric Super Bowl. I don't know about easier, because I think people are underestimating Jayden Daniels. I really do. There's never a moment too big for that guy.
Speaker 2:If there's anybody that's hard to prepare for. I would rather face Hurts than Daniels in terms of preparing as a defensive coordinator, because Daniels can do so much. Hurts has some of that capability but Daniels has a better arm and is faster out of the pocket. I think he'd be a tougher matchup.
Speaker 2:I think the Mahomes Daniels Super Bowl would be a pretty epic one to watch. It could either be Mahomes shows the young kid how to do it and gets the three-peat, or maybe this is a crazy thought, maybe a little bit of the passing the torch, because I think Jayden Daniels is Mahomes 2.0. For the next 10 years I think we're going to be watching that kid going holy smokes. The throws he can make, the things he can do. I see him as 2.0. Not to say that Mahomes' run is done, but you want to talk about somebody who kind of has the same temperament and ability and smarts and throwing and running ability man. To me, that's Jaden Daniels. I think he's the best. I think he's the best quarterback by a mile and I think he's probably at this point easily a top five quarterback in the NFL, nfl, fair enough.
Speaker 1:Well, hey, we'll have to do um. After the results of this weekend's game, we'll have to schedule uh, you got to come on.
Speaker 2:You got to come on the show. You know we'll get the Jersey going. We'll get you on the show.
Speaker 1:We'll get it. Yeah, we'll get it. We'll get an appearance before the super bowl, for sure on video. So let's go, let's go, let's do it Go Bill.
Speaker 2:Awesome man Go Chief.
